Tourism Digital Dome Theater in Wakayama University is the theater equipped to project a 360 degree live action image using 4K technology including a special fisheye lens on a 5m-diameter dome screen. The view provides a virtual experience with dynamic presence in a world ranging from Kii Peninsula to the Universe.
The feature of this Dome Theater is not only to show a whole sky view but also demonstrates an integrated system of filming, projecting and broadcasting. In 2009, the world’s first experiment was conducted to present a live broadcast of a full-dome image of the total solar eclipse from Amami Island to four sites around the world.
The Digital Dome Theater can bring beautiful sceneries from around the world to the audience beyond time and distance. It allows the viewer a range of experience from the deep seas to the universe, or to observe natural heritage sites without the impact of normal visitation. New kinds of tourism can be presented in this way.
Currently research is being extended across a wide range of studies including science education, disaster prevention, archiving landscape and cultural assets and entertainment. Please contact us for further information.
