The Faculty of Economics at the National University Corporation Wakayama University (hereafter referred to as WU) invites applications for a full-time academic position in Macroeconomics. We are seeking highly skilled and motivated candidates with strong background in Macroeconomics and Monetary Economics (JEL classification Code E). The appointment is to strengthen the long-term commitment of the Faculty of Economics and Graduate School of Economics to excellence in education and research, inspire curiosity within our students, and develop problem-solving abilities and leadership skills. The successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions, in particular, to the development and delivery of our new postgraduate programs.
We invite applications at the positions of Professor, Associate Professor, or Lecturer. Candidates should be fluent in Japanese and English, able to communicate effectively to Japanese and international audiences, and convey analytical and practical information in a clear and accurate manner. Candidates must hold a PhD degree by the date of appointment, or have an equivalent strong record of research publications. The position entails also public engagement activities and administrative duties, which require strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines. 3.Location

4.Main Duties
The distribution of efforts in the assumption of main duties varies according to the assigned job position.
Education: Professor 30%; Associate Professor 30%; Lecturer 30%
Teaching courses in Macroeconomics and Monetary Economics, both in Japanese and English
Supervision of research at the undergraduate and postgraduate programs
Research: Professor 40%; Associate Professor 50%; Lecturer 60%
Conduct of theoretical and/or empirical research and international research collaboration leading to publications at top-quality scientific journals and presentations at international conferences and seminars
Social Activities: Professor 10%; Associate Professor 10%; Lecturer 10%
Engagement in public activities including cooperation with local governments, and dissemination of information related to the faculty in Japan and abroad
Management and Administration: Professor 20%; Associate Professor 10%; Lecturer 0%
Active participation in management and administrative duties, including activities related to student admission and career enhancement
5.Expected Date of Appointment
April 1, 2024 (or commencement date no later than October 1, 2024)
6.Required Qualifications
Applicants are expected to meet the following requirements
(1)A completed PhD degree by the date of appointment or equivalent strong record of research publications
(2)Strong ability and motivation to undertake high-quality research and innovative education
(3)Proficiency in mathematical and quantitative analysis and ability to teach related subjects in Japanese and English
7.Working Conditions
Full time:The position of Professor and Associate Professor are tenured. Retirement age is 65 years.
For Lecturer, the appointment will be based on a 5 years Tenure-Track basis. If tenure is approved within 5 years, the appointment will be changed to permanent in status at that point. The requirement for obtaining tenure can be fulfilled upon a favorable screening result at the Tenure Evaluation, and will be based on the achievements accumulated on yearly basis during the tenure-track period. Tenured permanent positions have a retirement age of 65 years (details are in conformity with the Tenure-Track system of Wakayama University).?
The first 6 months of the appointment (for all levels) will be a trail period.
Discretionary work system for professional work: 5 days a week, basic working hours from 8:30 to 17:15
Holidays: Saturdays, Sunday, national holidays, end-of-year and new-year holidays Dec. 29 ~ Jan. 3

8.Salary and Benefits
Salary: in accordance with Wakayama University regulations on annual salary system for faculty and administrative staff work. For addition, please refer to Clause 13~Clause 15 for Tenure-Track positions in the case the appointment is made for Lecturer.
